Summary

The recently releasedStar Wars Battlefront Classic Collectionmay still be using a fan mod for its bonus content, as claimed by the person who originally made it. When it was announced that longtimeStar WarsPC port developer Asypr was bringing the first twoBattlefrontgames to modern hardware in theStar Wars Battlefront Classic Collection, fans were excited. This only increased when it was revealed that the collection would also feature the Xbox-exclusive DLC forStar Wars Battlefront 2, which allowed players to take control of Clone Wars-era fan favorites Asajj Ventress and Kit Fisto.

However, it was soon discovered that Asypr was seemingly using an old mod to bring Ventress and Fisto tothe Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection. Said mod simply reskinnedtwo existingStar Wars Battlefront 2heroesas the DLC characters, with Ventress wielding an entirely different weapon as a result. Asypr soon apologized for this, stating that the footage shown in theBattlefront Classic Collectionwas a placeholder that featured the mod by mistake and that the finished product wouldn’t use any code from uncredited sources.

Despite this, originalStar Wars Battlefront 2modder iamashaymin recently came forward with evidence that their DLC mod isstill being used inStar Wars Battlefront Classic Collection. In a pair of Twitter posts (viaIGN), iamashaymin pointed out that before it was patched, the Nintendo Switch version of the game featured the same bugs and glitches as their Kit Fisto mod, and a data mine revealed that it was indeed the same files with just the lightsaber attack animations updated. Iamashaymin would later back up their claims with screenshots of Fisto’s Force Orb attack, which is shown to have the same bubble effect as the mod from 2020.

Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection Has Been Controversial

Iamashaymin states that despite theStar Wars Battlefront Classic Collectionallegedly using their mod forthe Xbox-exclusiveBattlefront 2DLC, they remain uncredited. They say that they never had any issue with Aspyr using their mod, but feel that to do so without giving proper credit to the source is a disservice to players that calls the developer’s credibility into question.

Sure enough, theBattlefront Classic Collectionhas generated plenty of controversysince it launched earlier this month, mostly surrounding network stability for its online multiplayer, frame rate issues, and an unusually large download size for what is essentially two titles from the mid-2000s being optimized for current hardware. The ongoing dilemma of Asypr still using iamashaymin’sBattlefront 2mods without giving proper credit is yet more bad press for theStar Wars Battlefront Classic Collection, which is already seen as one of the most divisive releases of 2024 so far.
