James Gunn has confirmed, in his own James Gunn way, that Harley Quinn will show up again in the DC Extended Universe. What that actually means for the character is anyone’s guess, but just the knowledge alone should be enough to get some excitement levels to the bubbling stage.

After appearing in Gunn’s beloved and surprisingly excellentThe Suicide Squad, Margot Robbie’sHarley Quinnhasn’t really shown any indications of upcoming new projects. Between that and her time in 2020’s audience darlingBirds of Prey, it’s no wonder that plenty of fans would love to see this version of the character again in some capacity. Whether it comes from another movie or perhaps even a spinoff of her own, it’s clear that Robbie’s take on the character is just as much of a treasure asHBO Max’sHarley Quinn.

So when Gunn himself posted onTwitterabout the 30th anniversary ofHarley Quinn’s first appearance, it should come as no surprise that fans quickly asked whether the character would return to the DCEU, where she’s already made plenty of waves. “Will Harley Quinn return in the DCEU?” one fan inquired in the replies. Gunn, being Gunn, didn’t mince words with his reply, simply saying “Yes.”

When Gunn’sPeacemakerseries on HBO Max with John Cena proved to be one of the biggest surprise hits in recent memory, many fans wondered if any other characters fromThe Suicide Squadwould get a similar spinoff. Gunn confirmed that there would be more, but declined to mention who would be the star. It certainly wouldn’t be out of the question for Robbie to return as Harley Quinn for such a project, and in fact, it would probably gain immediate approval from the majority of fans.

Gunn is known for several things on Twitter, among them being his gushing admiration for his actors and other colleagues as well as his penchant for making pretty big announcements by way of unceremonious tweets (among them being a helpful step guide topull off the dance from thePeacemakerintro). The thing about that is that sometimes, those tweets don’t really provide much more information than a simple yes or no. In this case, a simple one-word answer doesn’t offer much. But it’s still something.

However Robbie’s return happens, it will certainly be welcome. Betweenthe excellentHarley Quinnanimated series(on which Gunn himself made a cameo this season) and her well-received appearances on the big screen, it’s clear thatHarley Quinnis enjoying a bit of a heyday. Here’s hoping that streak keeps going.
